Introduction

Key Rotary orientations are to provide charitable service and to make charitable donations locally, nationally and globally. While Rotary International allows clubs to decide on their own agendas there is an expectation that clubs will make some effort to support key Rotary programs and institutions.

First, Rotary International itself needs funds. Some are provided through district dues, but Rotarians are encouraged both as individuals and through their clubs to provide funds to Rotary International through Rotary Foundation. Donations can also be made in support of Paul Harris Fellowships (acronym = PHF) or in tax deductible contributions through Every Rotarian Every Year (acronym = EREY.

Second, Rotary is heavily supportive of young people, and clubs are actively encouraged to sponsor young people to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (acronym= RYLA) which runs a week of leadership training each year in December and to a number of other youth programs such as the National Youth Science Forum (acronym=NYSF) which is a Canberra-based fortnight of science lectures and visits which occurs annually in January. Rotary is also a sponsor of the Siemen's Science Experience is a science program for Year 7 students.

Third, Rotary has a number of international programs, most especially the Group Study Exchange Scheme (acronym= GSE) which supports a team of four young adults (aged 18 to 39) travelling abroad under the leadership of an experienced Rotarian and Youth Study Exchange (acronym = YSE) which supports young people studying abroad for nine months in Year 11.

Other international Rotary programs include Polio Plus, Rotary Australia World Community Service, Ausstralian Rotary Health, Aquabox, Shelterbox and Rotarians Against Malaria (acronym = RAMS).
