Walwa Bush Nursing Centre
We welcomed Melinda Short and Bron Smithwick from the Walwa Bush Nursing Centre. Melinda and Bron talked us through how the Centre provided support to the local community during the New Year Upper Murray bushfire, and the consequent impact on the Centre and its staff and people whose lives were so affected.
The fire threatened the township several times, with the wind direction controlling the path of the flames. During the emergency, the Centre provided food and shelter to many emergency service workers. Centre staff were unable to return to their homes and kept the services going despite no power or normal communications.
Funds from our Club and also RC Heidelberg are being channelled into recovery projects at the Walwa Bush Nursing Centre. Wonderful people providing real assistance to their community. In a time of crisis.
Record number of people participating in Zoom Meeting.
Last Wednesday we hit the record number of 25 people logged on to our
ZOOM meeting. In addition to Ivanhoe members, we welcomed our two guest speakers from Walwa and Rotarians from Strathmore, Eltham, Heidelberg and Rosanna. This raises the opportunity to continue with a mix of face-to-face and ZOOM meetings after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
