Last Wednesday we learnt more about our newest Ivanhoe Rotarian Rebekah Trachsel.—the person behind the badge.
Rebekah told us how she grew up in Ohio Cincinatti, close to the border with Kentucky – a somewhat economically depressed region of the USA. Her family name came from her Great Grandfather who emigrated from Switzerland.
Rebekah’s father is in real estate project management while her mother is a special education teacher.,
The eldest of four sisters, Rebekah was educated in the Catholic school system. When her high school Spanish teacher recommended Rebekah to Rotary Youth Exchange, she jumped at the opportunity. Rebekah became fluent in Spanish through the resulting year (2003-04) in Mexico on Rotary exchange.
After graduating with a Bachelor in Political Science and Spanish, Rebekah worked for Rotary International.
Rebekah met her Australian partner Heidi four years ago and two years lat- er the pair moved to Melbourne. Her current job managing financial donor communications at Austin Health, came about after Heidi’s father had a period being cared for by the hospital after a stroke.
Rebekah feels her strength is in designing fund raising materials for not-for- profit organisations. In her leisure time she enjoys keeping in touch with family and friends.
And finally — Rebekah confirms it. Americans are louder than Australians!
